KEIDA is no stranger to music and the arts. Born Keida Beckford, the singer was raised by visual artist parents and developed a love for creative expression at a tender age. Growing up in the coastal town of Bull Bay in St. Andrew, Jamaica, she and her family learned to surf, paint and cultivate their artistic talents. Nonetheless, she didn’t her discover musical talents until much later.
In 2009, Keida emerged on the reggae/dancehall scene with her debut single “Jamaican Boy.” The single was an instant hit locally and internationally, and paved the way for collaborations with well-acclaimed musicians and producers. She released her first mixtape, “Wickedest Ting” in 2012, followed by a more roots-reggae style EP dedicated to the youth, entitled “Ebb and Flow.” After touring Europe and the United States for several years, she was featured on Christina Aguilera’s Liberation album in 2018, alongside fellow Jamaican songstress Shenseea for their single “Right Moves”.
The award-winning artist is still at, coming in with a force on “Vai” — the debut single from the upcoming ‘Long Weekend’ project. ‘Vai’ (which translates to ‘Shake It’) is the the lovechild of a baile-funk and reggaeton, with an infectious hook and fiery riddim, produced by Roe Summerz.
“I’ve always been an eclectic person so this is just another side of me unfolding. The project has been a long time coming and It’s been nothing but a pleasure collaborating with Roe Summerz to bring the truest reflection of that vision. It’s just the beginning of even greater things to forward.”KEIDA
In addition to working on her upcoming project, Keida will be touching road this summer, with a European tour which includes performances at Reggael Geel, Nomade Music Festival and more.
‘Vai’ is available now on all music platforms including Tidal, iTunes Spotify and Deezer. Get an exclusive listen below and be sure to stay connected with KEIDA at @keidamusic on Twitter + Facebook, and @keidaweeda on Instagram.
