Jane Macgizmo is one of the most talented emerging artistes from Jamaica right now. ‘Quality over quantity’ can definitely be used to describe her music. She recently blessed her fans with the release of her latest single, ‘Midas.’ Jane gives some insight into the new single plus an upcoming project 👀
The first thing about the song that caught my attention was the riddim/instrumental. What was your reaction like the first time you heard it?
Jane: It went through a process before it sounded like that. It was something completely different at first. When Teflon asked SOS to add the bass, we stripped the beat of a guitar sample and we were like okay, this is fire and we added some additional sounds to go with the new vibe and kept it minimalistic.
Midas was produced by Teflon Zincfence alongside SOS Dynamikz. Teflon is definitely one of the top producers in the game right now. What is it like working with him?
Working with him can be basically summed up to “You are not allowed to be nothing but the best!” So he will tell me straight up if he hates something as much as he will say he loves something and he will drop his two cents in from time to time. No ‘yes man energy.’
One of the best things about your music is that no two songs sound the same. Each of them has their own flavour and sound. What would you say contributes to your versatility as an artiste?
Definitely being a fan of all kinds of music as well as the quality of music I listen to.
Your songs usually have some hidden messages and interesting backstories. So, what’s the story behind ‘Midas’?
This song is really about my life experiences with relationships in the past and how moving on and sticking to those guns of not going back to exes can be empowering for your life. Midas also alludes to my sexual prowess. *laughs* No more comments.
You have recently mentioned an upcoming EP which is slated for next year. Is ‘Midas’ a part of it and what can people expect from that project?
Midas is not a part of the project. The project will be eclectic and mostly rooted in dancehall in terms of delivery and some of the production. Just my fusion sound.
‘Midas’ is now available on all major streaming platforms.
