For me, Bookophilia is a safe space so I’m always willing to leave my house to go there. It is small and cozy and reminds me of home. It is also the perfect venue for upcoming artistes to showcase their talents in an intimate setting where they can make a real connection with the audience. This is something Evaflow is good at, making a REAL connection with his audience.
#StartFromTheSky which was held on Friday, May 31 wasn’t just another Evaflow live show. It was an opportunity for people to see him at his most vulnerable state with his band, The Sky Starter Band and also a commemoration of the release of his latest single, Meditate. Even though it was his show, it wasn’t all about him. He gave poets and other upcoming artistes a platform to showcase their talents. Upcoming artistes such as, Afyah, Chris Malachi, Moon, Jamila Falak, Sarah Couch, Lila Iké and Kodi Blaine. I must say that Kodi Blaine stood out for me with a beautiful song titled, State of Mind. I’m definitely looking forward to hearing more from her.
Another standout moment was a bonfire activity.
Patrons were asked to write on a piece of paper any negative thing in their lives that they want to get rid of.
Then we gathered around the bonfire and threw the pieces of paper in the fire. I hope that was cleansing for some.
To top of the night, it was time for special guest, Protoje to come burn a little fire. Being Evaflow’s childhood friend, it was great seeing them perform together. One important thing to note is that Protoje said, “I wouldn’t be half the artiste you see today without dem man yah.” As they used to push each other with lyrical battles. All in all it was a really nice show. It won’t be the last staging so be on the lookout for more vibes.
